The Reel Appeal
The Reel Appeal is hosted by ScreenGeek’s Mark Salcido and Your Entertainment Corner’s Kelsey Loiselle as they discuss life, reviews, and the state of cinema today. The duo removes the nostalgia protection and takes a bat to classic movies to see if they stand the test of time. No film is safe.

Episode 40 - Onward And Heavy On The Metal
Thursday Mar 12, 2020
Thursday Mar 12, 2020
Hey everyone! What are we up to this week? Well... roles are switched. Mark is hosting and Kelsey is sick... again. Besides that, we go through the news as usual, which encompasses PornHub releasing a documentary which is NOT a porno, the Batmobile is revealed by director Matt Reeves, and Hocus Pocus 2 will be coming to Disney+ sometime in the future.
Our Recent Review this week is Pixar's Onward. On the fence about whether to go on this elven journey of magic and self-discovery? We talk about the highs and lows of the brothers' trek to meet their father and whether it is worth the watch.
Coronavirus has been all over the news. Surprise, surprise... it's our Variety Time topic. We cover a timeline, news of cancellations and what we're already seeing in our own personal lives. But don't worry, our platform is the perfect way to connect without physically being with people. Alone, together.
Finally. Mark gets to show Kelsey the movie from his childhood. Our Geriatric Cinematic Review? Heavy Metal. Never heard of it? Neither did Kelsey before this. Take a listen and find out for yourself if it is worth the watch. It might be the most metal thing you ever see.

We're baaaack! Mark is ardent and churlish as ever as we cover Kodak and film format, Steven Spielberg dipping out of directorship on Indiana Jones 5, and Bob Chapek taking over as CEO of Disney in the news.
Our Recent Review of The Invisible Man won't make you want to disappear. We promise. There is a lot to say about this film that was surprisingly good despite its plot holes, but we get to that in the show.
Variety Time has Try This, Not That making a comeback. Mark is halfway through the second season of Narcos: Mexico after a long hiatus and Kelsey will not shut up about I Am Not Okay With This. Or anything else, really.
Our Geriatric Cinematic this week is War of the Roses. What. A. Wild. Ride. Danny DeVito is in this, and while he tells a tale of a couple he once knew ripping each other to shreds, we revel in the afterglow of carnage and the lengths people will go to just to have the last word. Or Staffordshire figurine.

Wednesday Feb 19, 2020
Hey! Valentine's Day was last week! What better way to celebrate that and Black History Month all wrapped up into one than by watching The Photograph as our Recent Review and Boomerang as our Geriatric Cinematic Review? We obviously couldn't think of one, so here we are, wining and dining your ears with these two love stories about people who are Black, successful and beautiful.
Our news segment features stories about the last man standing at the almost defunct MovieFone. We also get into NBC's The Hunt coming back and a sneak peek of Robert Pattinson's Batman.
After our Recent Review, we do our Variety Time, where we go over new innovations in filming: namely, a vertical format blockbuster. Is it a case of just because you can don't mean you should? Or will it really bend the known walls of filmmaking?
With the love of The Photograph and fun of Boomerang, our final conversation will be on which film did Black, successful and beautiful better? Will you agree?

What's better than female badassery, where women take back their independence and generally just get stuff done? I would say nothing. Not even Ignacius Mark.
Actually, we can think of something that comes close. The Oscars were this week, and Bong Joon Ho won BIG with Parasite. He had the best reactions to his wins and is the cutest and most deserving director ever.
Our Recent Review of Birds of Prey was a great female redemption from the previous week. Unfortunately, it's not doing as well as it deserves at the box office, and we talk about some of the reasons why.

Episode 36 - There's No Rhythm In This Section
Wednesday Feb 05, 2020
Wednesday Feb 05, 2020
Percussion. Wind. Music that comes together to soothe your soul. Or maybe just bad gas. Either way, we're back to tell you about some things. We're a little light on news, just covering Pee-wee Herman himself wanting a dark film about--himself, and Fast and Furious 9 dropping the most ridiculous trailer ever.
Our Recent Review this week is The Rhythm Section. Coming out the gate like a soulful take on a woman's liberation and revenge, it really wound up being more like a stinky fart. Bodum-tssss.
Variety Time consists of a great question posed to us in a segment we like to call Mail Bag. A listener emailed us to ask what our annual watches are and we couldn't stop talking about ourselves, like a couple of narcists.
We, of course, paired our Recent Review with Road to Perdition for our Geriatric Cinematic, keeping in line with our familial revenge connection. Neither Mark nor Kelsey watched it prior to seeing it for this episode, and wow... We can't say enough about it.

Episode 35 - The Gentlemen On A Good Friday
Wednesday Jan 29, 2020
Wednesday Jan 29, 2020
Gentlemen on a good Friday. Are they still gentlemen when it's not a good Friday? What about any other day of the week? Before we find out, we talk about Howard the Duck and Tigra & Dazzler not moving forward with Hulu, the Obi-Wan Kenobi series has been delayed due to script rewrites and a new writer, and the sudden passing of Kobe Bryant, his daughter and others in a helicopter crash this past weekend. We're usually tongue-in-cheek, but somberness and awkward emotions were in order for this one. We're sure you understand the switch up.
Our Recent Review this week is The Gentlemen. Kelsey get's her first taste of what Guy Ritchie makes by way of British gangster films, and they both get to fawn over the stylish dress of some very handsome men. Also, accents. Lots of beautiful accents.
Variety Time this week is Simon Says! Yes, Simon Gruber has asked another question, which lead to another and another. No, subpoenas are not exciting, Agents and Special Agents are very similar, and here is an infographic on the difference between the FBI and the CIA. Mostly, we now realize that, yes, we have way too many acronymed agencies that do very similar things. Way. Too. Many.
Our Geriatric Cinematic Review this week is The Long Good Friday. It's a British gangster film, chosen for exactly that reason to go with The Gentlemen like red wine and cheese. We encounter a really young Pierce Brosnan, Bob Hoskins at his best and lots of violence.

Episode 34 - Lethal Bad Boys
Wednesday Jan 22, 2020
Wednesday Jan 22, 2020
Nobody naw give you no bray-ache. Police naw give you no break. Especially the police in our two films this week. Bad Boys For Life is our Recent Review, and Lethal Weapon is our Geriatric Cinematic. What is our connection? You guessed it! Or maybe you didn't. We're talking buddy cops!
First, we cover the news, where we discuss Disney re-branding their Fox acquisitions, Colin Treverrow's version of Star Wars Episode IX would have been amazing and Mindhunter is in trouble on Netflix. Mark even finds a moment to talk about Film Critic Hulk's article breaking down what the issues actually were with Joker. Don't worry. It's not a sob-fest. Neither are our Variety Time stories. Those are a fun-fest.
The best part of our episode this week is diving into which film did the buddy cop thing best. Will you agree? Disagree? Agree to disagree? You naw give us no bray-ache...? Fine. But you'll have fun anyway.

Mark and Kelsey present to you their latest episode, full of new things. Like structure. And endings. You'll see what I mean.
We cover the news, of course, with the Oscar's around the corner, Mark's jam, Atlanta coming back, Bong Joon-ho's Parasite becoming Americanized, and DJ Qualls coming out as gay. Do we care he's gay? No. But we care he's doing what's right for him. Duh.
Our Recent Review for this week is Sam Mendes's 1917. We can't say enough about this one, mostly because we don't want to spoil it for anyone.
New segment! We're calling it Variety Time (like a variety show, get it?) so we can use this space to say what we want to say and be who we want to be. Don't like it? Our Geriatric Cinematic is right around the corner so don't get her knickers in a bunch.
This week, we're doing Hard Boiled. Yes, that classic John Woo movie. Not breakfast. Why did we choose it? Both of our reviews feature track shots. Come compare and contrast with us. You know you want to.

Episode 32 - Escape From Parasites
Wednesday Jan 08, 2020
Wednesday Jan 08, 2020
Hey everybody! It's that special time of year again! Not Christmas, or New Year, or your yearly trip to see your grandmother (you should really go visit her more). Nay, it is awards season and the Golden Globes have wrought terror and solace alike.
Once we get past the Globes (and Kelsey going on about her stupid cat), we get into the meat and potatoes of the podcast, reviewing stuff.
Our Recent Review this week is Bong Joo-Ho's Parasite. Did Kelsey and Mark fan-girl over this film? Yes they did. Should you see it right this second? Yes you should. Already watched it? Watch it again.
We did our What the F*** Did We Just Watch segment, covering Cats. Mark kidnapped Kelsey and made her go see this film with him. He now thinks he's a Jellicle Cat.
And what was our Geriatric Cinematic? Why, John Carpenter's Escape From New York, of course. It was chosen for three reasons. One is because it's a commentary on social class like our Recent Review. Second, Mark likes it. Did Kelsey seem it a relevant and moderately watchable film in the 2nd decade of this millennium? Maybe just listen and find out.

Mark and Kelsey break down their top 10 films they can't wait to watch next year. Not a big enough list, in our opinion.
