The Reel Appeal
The Reel Appeal is hosted by ScreenGeek’s Mark Salcido and Your Entertainment Corner’s Kelsey Loiselle as they discuss life, reviews, and the state of cinema today. The duo removes the nostalgia protection and takes a bat to classic movies to see if they stand the test of time. No film is safe.

Episode 12 - Once Upon A Time In Hollywood/Easy Rider
Tuesday Jul 30, 2019
Tuesday Jul 30, 2019
Mark and Kelsey are back to their usual shenanigans after they took an unexpected break (it was all Mark's fault with his faulty back) and their San Diego Comic-Con episodes.
This week we cover the possibility of Mad Max sequels and a Furiosa movie, Hulu and Disney+, and Todd Phillips' Joker movie a possible Venice Film Festival winner and Oscar contender.
Our topic for discussion this week is the scourge of the Internet, the bane of social media users alike: clickbait.
Mark recommends Star Trek: Discovery. Kelsey has nothing to recommend, yet again. Why do we call it Try This Not That? It should be, Mark's Flick Picks.
We got so wound up talking about Once Upon A Time In Hollywood that we didn't have time for our Simon Says segment. Poor Mr. Gruber. Shunned. We'll hear from him again, I hope.
We head straight into our Geriatric Cinematic of Easy Rider, where Kelsey drops a bomb about her disdain for a certain well known and respected actor. What is wrong with her?

Tuesday Jul 23, 2019
Tuesday Jul 23, 2019
Mark and Kelsey of Screengeek.net bring James Hadden of Screengeek.net back on the show where they discuss days 2 through 4 of San Diego Comic-Con. Yeah, that's right. We couldn't record every day like we intended because nightlife called.
We attended panels, made a fool of ourselves, redeemed ourselves and had a great time in temperate San Diego. Oh yeah, we might have met a celebrity or two.

Friday Jul 19, 2019
Hello Folks and we are back from taking a couple of weeks off. The Reel Appeal podcast is at this year's San Diego Comic-Con and our host has brought a few friends along. This episode is day one of our trip to the nerd Mecca. Mark Salcido and Kelsey Loiselle of ScreenGeek.net introduce their British friend James Hadden of ScreenGeek.net and talk about what when down at the con.
We talk about the Terminator: Dark Fate panel, the lackluster Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D event at Hall H, and meeting the cast of WB's Batman Beyond. It's a short episode but worth listening to.

Episode 9 - Yesterday/Hedwig and the Angry Inch
Tuesday Jul 02, 2019
Tuesday Jul 02, 2019
Mark and Kelsey of Screengeek.net are at it again with their opinions and such. This week, we talk about Netflix's new Sandman TV show and San Diego Comic-Con studio dropouts. Disney's new Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge is not doing as well as expected, and maybe that's due to franchise fatigue. Or maybe it's Disney's ticket prices. We're just speculating, but what if it's toxic fandom? Help us decide.
Mark recommends more shows, one on Amazon Prime and one on Netflix. Not the usual types of recommendations, but Mark is not your usual person...thing.
Yesterday couldn't get left in the past quick enough as it was our Recent Review and we had to relive the pain of so much failing just to tell you how it was. You're. Welcome.Simon asks us about fives and dimes and thrift shops. He may have low-key been asking for drugs. Not entirely sure.
Hedwig and the Angry Inch is our Geriatric Cinematic, and though the songs surely made Kelsey feel like a kid loathing her parents' choice in music, the film had some surprisingly good messages.

Episode 8 - Toy Story 4/The Brave Little Toaster
Wednesday Jun 26, 2019
Wednesday Jun 26, 2019
Sit back because we're in it for the long haul. Reel Appeal hosts Mark and Kelsey of Screengeek.net have a bunch to say this week about Keanu Reeves and Max Landis. Not in the same story, thankfully, but a lot nonetheless. Maybe too much.
Before we jump into the crux of the show, Kelsey and Mark talk about their outing with Legendary director, John Woo.
Mark recommends one HBO show he's been watching, Kelsey copies and recommends another in our Try This, Not That segment. Don't worry--he gets his revenge by imposing on her pick.
Toy Story 4 is the choice for our recent review. Uplifting. Heartbreaking. The usual. The Brave Little Toaster is our Geriatric Cinematic choice and it has a lot of dark twists that will leave you balled up in the corner pleading for the light. Who knew a kid's movie could be so dark? Our Deathbed Do-Over is of Lucy. Mark laughs way too hard at Kelsey's second ending. Maybe he only has 10% brain capacity. You be the judge. Finally, before you go, check out this link if you want to read the script a bot wrote for John Wick 3. It's amazing.

Episode 7 - The Dead Don't Die/The Royal Tenenbaums
Tuesday Jun 18, 2019
Tuesday Jun 18, 2019
Reel Appeal hosts Mark and Kelsey of Screengeek.net are at it again, covering Netflix’s renewal of Russian Doll and the plot of the Fantastic Four/X-Men crossover that didn't happen but totally could have been a franchise-saver. But probably not.
Mark has recommendations on what to watch and what not to watch in our Try This, Not That segment. He has opinions. Maybe he's just being bossy, idk.
The Dead Don't Die is our recent review choice and is a very long-winded topic. You'll find out why. Simon! Mr. Gruber! He's got more questions for us Americans from across the pond. Of course, his knowledge of American culture comes from American films and he is bewildered, to say the least. This week's Geriatric Cinematic is Wes Anderson's 2001 The Royal Tenenbaums. Is it still good?
Finally, before you go, check out this link to Vice if you've seen Russian Doll and are a fan of Natasha Lyonne like we are.

Episode 6 - Dark Phoenix/The Usual Suspects
Wednesday Jun 12, 2019
Wednesday Jun 12, 2019
In this week’s episode, Reel Appeal hosts Mark and Kelsey of Screengeek.net cover Netflix’s renewal of Love, Death + Robots, Pauley Perrette and why she won’t return to NCIS—EVER, and Swamp Thing’s quick cancellation after only one episode aired. It’s DC, so there may be some controversial ideas.
Our Try This, Not That is more on the ‘try this’ side this week. With one of the shows being a pretty depressing topic, it’s not all sunshine and rainbows, though.
We review Dark Phoenix (2019), because we have to save you, and our Geriatric Cinematic features a largely loved The Usual Suspects (1995). They both haveBryan Singer in common, in case you didn’t know. He’s not been great lately, and we talk about the gap in quality content.

Wednesday Jun 05, 2019
This week, Reel Appeal hosts Mark and Kelsey of Screengeek.net cover the news about James Cameron’s Terminator: Dark Fate and the state of film in Georgia after their controversial abortion law passed. Let’s get existential.
Simon Andrews is back at it again, bleaching his teacups and questioning us Americans on our use of the word “bleachers”. Recommendations abound in our Try This, Not That segment.
We review the new Godzilla: King of the Monsters (2019) and in our Geriatric Cinematic segment, talk about the wild journey Ghidorah, The Three-Headed Monster (1964) has taken us on. Some surprising things come up that cannot go without discussion. Other things that come up in our reviews--not so surprising.

Our friend and colleague, Simon Andrews—also from Screengeek.net—poses a question to us from across the pond in our new Simon Says segment.
Deathbed Do-over this week is Paul Schrader's First Reformed.
Aladdin (2019) is our newly released film review and Aladdin (1992) is our Geriatric Cinematic segment. We compare and contrast the films and see how they hold up.
