The Reel Appeal
The Reel Appeal is hosted by ScreenGeek’s Mark Salcido and Your Entertainment Corner’s Kelsey Loiselle as they discuss life, reviews, and the state of cinema today. The duo removes the nostalgia protection and takes a bat to classic movies to see if they stand the test of time. No film is safe.

Tuesday Apr 05, 2022
Hey everyone! Rotoscoping, a niche style of filmmaking, is the center of our discussions this week. Both films are Richard Linklater’s, our Recent Review being Netflix's Apollo 10½: A Space Age Childhood and our Geriatric Cinematic being Waking Life (2001). If you don’t know what rotoscoping is, you should definitely check these films out.
Our middle segment this week is What the F*** Did We Just Watch?! Sony Pictures' Morbius is the sad excuse for a movie to enter our crosshairs. If you’ve seen the movie, you’ll likely understand why we just had to talk about it.
Next week, our Recent Review is A24’s Everything Everywhere All at Once, which is currently in theaters with a nationwide release on Friday, April 8th. Our Geriatric Cinematic is Donnie Darko, streaming on HBO Max or available to rent on Apple TV, Amazon, YouTube, or other VOD services.

Hey everyone! What happens when you mix a porno with traveling teens? This episode is about horror. A24's X is our Recent Review this week, and we paired it with the slasher horror flick, Tourist Trap (1979). While both are horror films, our Variety Time segment is about the horrors of when critics get it horribly wrong. Yes, that’s right. We’re talking about the Turning Red review published by Cinema Blend and the controversy surrounding the Pixar film.

Hey, folks! We went “off course” and did Sony Pictures Uncharted as our Recent Review this week, and The Mummy (1999) as our Geriatric Cinematic. Mark got more than he bargained for with this one, as Kelsey reveals yet another movie mixup of hers.
The duo discusses season one of HBO Max's Peacemaker in the Variety Time segment and takes a deep dive into Universal Pictures Dark Universe that never really took off. Also, hear the two pitch ideas for their own Universal Monsters movies.

Hey everyone! Valentine’s Day just happened, and both Kelsey and Mark don’t like rom-coms. So they decided to do a couple of rom-coms for this week’s episode. Our Recent Review is Amazon Studio's I Want You Back, and our Geriatric Cinematic is High Fidelity (2000).
Everyone is talking about their opinion of Disney Plus's The Book of Boba Fett, and we have quite a lot to say about it ourselves. We spend an entire segment discussing what worked and what didn’t.
Last but not least, we have a few rom-com ideas of our own. One is set in the horror genre. Have a listen and let us know if you think we’re onto something.
Next week, our Recent Review is Texas Chainsaw Massacre, which releases February 18th on Netflix. Our Geriatric Cinematic is The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974), currently streaming on Showtime and Shudder, or available to rent on Amazon, Apple TV, YouTube TV, and other VOD services.

Hey everyone! Are we freaky looking or just nightmare-ish? Good thing this is an audio-only podcast so you’ll never have to find out. This week, our Recent Review is Nightmare Alley, and our Geriatric Cinematic is Freaked (1993). Mark breaks down the creation and rise of Alex Winter's cult classic film.
The Academy Award nominations have been announced, so we discuss what we agree with and what we don’t, and who was snubbed.
Next week, we are reviewing I Want You Back and High Fidelity (2000). I Want You Back is premiering on Prime Video. High Fidelity is available to stream on Amazon, Apple TV, Youtube TV, and other VOD services.

Episode 131 - Simply a Simpleton
Tuesday Feb 01, 2022
Tuesday Feb 01, 2022
Hey folks! Our plan was to bring you a new episode, and we executed it. You’re welcome. This week, our Recent Review is Amazon Studio's A Hero, and our Geriatric Cinematic is Sam Raimi’s A Simple Plan (1998).
In the news, we discuss Jeremy Slater signing on to write the sequel to the most recent Mortal Kombat movie, the possibility of Jason Momoa joining the Fast & Furious franchise, and Halyna Hutchen’s family filing a wrongful death suit following the tragedy on the set of Rust.
We normally only talk about two films, but our Variety Time this week is full of the worst film to possibly exist, Battlefield Earth. The creators of that movie did not execute if they planned on it being good.
Next week, our Recent Review is Pam & Tommy, premiering on Hulu on February 2nd, and our Geriatric Cinematic is 1976’s All The President’s Men, streaming on Hulu, HBO Max, or available to rent on Apple TV, Amazon, and other VOD Services.

Hey folks! We’re back, and better than ever. Or at least that’s what our therapists told us. Our Recent Review this week is George Clooney’s The Tender Bar, and our Geriatric Cinematic is Sofia Coppola’s The Virgin Suicides (1999). One is a feel-good movie, and the other is decidedly not, but see if they are both worth watching.
In the news, we talk about Netflix losing so much money, Alex Garland is teaming up with A24 for ‘Civil War’, and a Godzilla and Kaiju monster TV series coming to Apple TV. Our Variety Time this week has us talking about what to watch and what not to watch. We know what’s best for you.
Next week, our Recent Review will be A Hero, currently streaming on Amazon Prime, and our Geriatric Cinematic will be Sam Raimi's A Simple Plan, available to rent on Amazon, Apple TV, YouTube TV, and other VOD services.
