The Reel Appeal
The Reel Appeal is hosted by ScreenGeek’s Mark Salcido and Your Entertainment Corner’s Kelsey Loiselle as they discuss life, reviews, and the state of cinema today. The duo removes the nostalgia protection and takes a bat to classic movies to see if they stand the test of time. No film is safe.

We bet you would all agree that little fluffy things are cute and cuddly. But not in the case of Critters or Save Yourselves! which are our Geriatric Cinematic and Recent Review, respectively.
We have another special guest named Zeus! Or is it James? Aw heck, we’ll just call him Juice as he helps the duo decide if Save Yourselves! is worth your hard earn VOD dollars or if Critters stands the test of time.
This week's Lovecraft Country had another amazing episode and gave us all the feels as we draw closer to the season finale. We take a deep dive into "Rewind 1921" which involves the Tulsa Race Massacre and there is a lot to dissect with the plot and within ourselves. Yeah, it got deep for our Trip Down Lovecraft Lane Segment.
In next week's show, it's a trial filled epsiode! The dynmaic duo will review Netflix's The Trial of Chicago 7 for our Recent Review and Kelsey finally ties Mark to chair so he can watch 1993's Hocus Pocus for Geriatric Cinematic.
The Aaron Sorkin directed film hits Netflix on October 16th and you can watch nostaliga/Halloween-filled movie on Disney+ or to rent on other streaming services.

It’s that time of year when the full moon means something more than just being a bright orb on an otherwise dark night. And we’ve got something to quench your thirst for the macabre!
In the news, we talk about Ms. Marvel lead being cast, Barry Jenkins is set to direct the new Lion King film, and Regal Theaters are shutting down until further notice.
We break down the latest episode of Lovecraft Country, Jig-A-Bobo. It was the third to last episode of the show and we had a lot to say about this amazing installment in the HBO hit show.
Our Recent Review is Vampires vs. the Bronx and we paired it with 1972's Blacula as our Geriatric Cinematic. Maybe you will learn a thing or two about staying safe from vampires. You might need it someday.
Next week we continue our Halloween themed extravaganza! Our Recent Review will be the VOD release of Save Yourselves! and we'll pair that with 1986's, Critters, for our Geriatric Cinematic. Hey everyone! We've got a special and overstuffed episode for you! Our friend James from England joins us, so we decided to see what he's been up to on the other side of the pond. No real news for our new segment...well, James decided to talk about football. English football.
We talk about Christopher Nolan's latest movie, Tenet for our Recent Review, and 1997's 12 Monkeys is our Geriatric Cinematic. To Mark's surprise, James was with Kelsey on not having seen Terry Gilliam's classic film, so we get a twofer with first-time opinions.
One thing Kelsey and Mark really enjoyed chatting about was Lovecraft Country. James steps out for a break while the dynamic duo discusses and fond over episode seven of the hit HBO show, "I Am".
Next week's show is the start of our month of Halloween theme Geriatric Cinematic. Our Recent Review will be Netflix's Vampires vs. The Bronx which is hitting the streaming service on October 2nd. Kelsey and Mark is taking another dive into Blaxploitation with 1972's Blacula. You can find the classic (?) horror film streaming on Amazon Prime or to rent on Apple TV, YouTube, Google Play, and other streaming services.

Hey there! We've got more stuff for you to listen to! First up is the news, we talk about Quibi stumbling, some Emmy winners, and Tatiana Maslany snagging Marvel's She-Hulk. Our Recent Review is none other than Antebellum. We love us some Janelle Monáe, but was this movie a home run for Lionsgate?
We get a peek into Atticus's mysterious military past in HBO'S Lovecraft Country episode, "Meet Me in Daegu", and we break it down in our Variety Time segment. Finally, our Geriatric Cinematic is Eve's Bayou. Released in 1997, it stars a young Jurnee Smollet and a younger but still old looking Samuel L. Jackson as her father. Inquiring minds want to know, does it hold up?
Next week, we finally see Tenet! Yes, Christopher Nolan's latest movie is playing at a safe theater near us and we can't wait to talk about it. We're pairing the time-traveling movie with the transtemporal travel film, 12 Monkeys. You can stream the Terry Gilliam flick on HBO Max, HBO on Demand, and HBO Now. Or you can rent it on Amazon, Apple TV, YouTube, and many other VOD services.

Your weekly pause from reality is here! We cover Academy regulation changes in the news and have an impromptu discussion about Robbie Coltrane furthering J. K. Rowling's insensitive transphobic book idea.
Our Recent Review is I'm Thinking of Ending Things. There is so much to say about this one. Cinephiles will go crazy for this.
HBO's Lovecraft Country is back with their latest episode "A Strange Case". We dish on our thoughts and break down this fantastic episode. Of course, Harold and Maude is our Geriatric Cinematic. Such a fun film, and we can't wait for you to see it. Because you should go watch it...right now.
On next week's show, we are reviewing the latest film starring singer-songwriter Janelle Monáe, Antebellum. The psychological horror movie will be available on VOD on September 18th. We pair that with 1997's Eve's Bayou. The Southern Gothic tale is available to stream on HBO Max, HBO Now. Or you can rent it on Amazon, Apple TV, YouTube, or Google Play

Wednesday Sep 09, 2020
Hey everyone! We had to do an episode on the 2020 live-action remake of Mulan as our Recent Review. We were obligated to, per the imaginary contract we have with our future selves. It's complicated.
But first! We cover news about David Fincher's latest movie, Venture Bros. being canceled, and Robert Pattinson catching the 'Rona.
We cover Lovecraft Country's latest episode, "A History of Violence", in our A Trip Down Lovecraft Lane segment, and hot damn it was an interesting one. Lastly, our Geriatric Cinematic is one of the greatest Kung Fu films ever, Come Drink With Me. We implore you to watch it so you can breakdown the classic Shaw Bros. movie with us.
Next week is a journey through WTF moments and horrible relationships.
Our Recent Review will be Netflix's I'm Thinking of Ending Things and we'll see if we can figure what the hell is going on in Charlie Kaufman's latest film. If that's not enough weirdness, we got Harold and Maude for our Geriatric Cinematic. You can find the 1971 film streaming on Amazon Prime and available to rent on Youtube, or Google Play

It's the year 2020, and most indubitably the most heinous year of our lives. But we have to be excellent to each other, even in these times. One way is to watch films.
We cover the latest Lovecraft Country episode, Holy Ghost, in the segment we like to call A Trip Down Lovecraft Lane.
In the news, we talk about Tenet and one of the worst things to happen this year, the death of Chadwick Boseman.
Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure is our Geriatric Cinematic and pit that up against Bill & Ted Face the Music for the Recent Review portion of this week's show. We hope you have a most triumphant time listening to us. We always do putting the show on for you!
In next week's episode, we'll be discussing Disney's live-action movie, Mulan, for our Recent Review--which you can find on Disney--and we'll see if 1966's Come Drink With Me still holds up. Yeah, you thought we were going to watch 1998's Mulan for our Geriatric Cinematic but we like to keep you guessing.
The classic Kung Fu film is available to watch on Amazon Prime or to rent on YouTube, Apple TV, and other streaming services.

Wednesday Aug 26, 2020
We're back! We never would have been able to get our show to you without Nikola Tesla. So here we are, doing an episode on Tesla as our Recent Review.
Our Geriatric Cinematic is The Prestige, which also has Bowie playing the part of Nikola Tesla. Though not the main attraction, the film lends a certain viewpoint to how obsession can ruin a person, in a different way than it eventually ruined Tesla.
DC Fandome largely dominates our news this week. The Batman, Suicide Squad, and Snyder's Justice League trailer were all featured news from the event.
Next week's episode is going to be excellent! Our Recent Review will be Bill & Ted Face the Music and we take a trip to 1989 for our Geriatric Cinematic and revisit Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure. Bill & Ted Face the Music will hit VOD on August 28 and you can find Excellent Adventure available to rent on YouTube, Amazon, and Apple TV.
Saved the best for last. Lovecraft Country finally hit HBO Max and we review the first two episodes. This show has absolutely everything you could hope for, and we can't wait to tell you about it.

Tax collection and that L.A. life don't generally mix, but this is The Reel Appeal. We don't follow the rules, we only make them.
The Tax Collector is our Recent Review and To Live and Die in L.A. is our Geriatric Cinematic. Kelsey had her time to shine--well, rant--about Radioactive, but this week, it's Mark's turn.
Besides reviews, we have some news to talk about concerning the Captain Marvel 2 director, the Paramount Decrees being terminated, and Christopher Eccleston coming back as Doctor Who for the audio adventures. Also, Try This Not That makes a triumphant return and we look forward to making your ear/eye holes happy.
We're off next week! However, you'll have plenty of time to prepare for our return.
When we come back from our small vacation, Kelsey and Mark will be reviewing IFC Films, Tesla. The Ethan Hawke starring movie will be available to rent on VOD on August 21st.
Our Geriatric Cinematic pick for that week's show will be Christopher Nolan's 2006 movie, The Prestige. You can the movie to rent on Apple TV, YouTube, Amazon, or wherever you rent your digtal movies.

We are animated over this week's episode! Well, Kelsey is. Mark is re-animated because he has already seen Re-Animator and Pet Sematary, both Geriatric Cinematics.
In the news, we cover John Cusack almost getting the role of Hannibal Lecter in the Hannibal TV series, and Issa Rae and Jordan Peele's Monkey Paw production company getting the rights to Sinkhole.
In between our glorious Geriatric Cinematics, we discuss a new deal between Universal and AMC following their dispute over the release of Trolls World Tour to video on demand in our Variety Time. Here will, however, be no disputes between us about film deals, cat tossing or bringing things back to life in any for or fashion.
Next week's show will have a Recent Review that everyone is sure to talk about! We'll be giving a hard look at David Ayer's latest movie, The Tax Collector, which will be available to rent this Friday on VOD.
We'll see if the Shia LaBeouf starring movie can hold up against the classic film set in Los Angeles, William Friedkin's To Live and Die In L.A. Come back and see what we think of both of these movies!
